CPIM BSCM Exam Guide
The first module of the APICS CPIM certification is the Basics of Supply Chain Management or BSCM. This is an entry-level module and covers what you would expect – the basics. You’ll learn the concepts that govern the world of supply and demand, how the flow of goods and materials affects final output and how supply chain management works in different industries, including retail, distribution, manufacturing and service industries. As a note, this module is required to continue with the remaining four.
Essentially, the BSCM course covers roughly the same topics that will be explored in later modules but does so at a high, overview level. Some of these topics can include the various environments found in the supply chain world, understanding and managing demand from markets and how customer expectations play into the industry.
It will also cover topics relating to inventory, including metrics and inventory costs, inventory functions and how to design processes that ensure better reliability, stability and accountability within the supply chain management industry. In all, the exam consists of 105 different questions, all of which are multiple choice. However, only 80 of these questions are actually scored. The minimum passing score for the exam is 300, and grading is done on a scale of 265 to 330. If you fail the exam, you can retake it, but you will have to pay the registration fee once more.
After you have mastered the Basics of Supply Chain Management module, you will move on to the second of the five courses, Master Planning of Resources. Completing only the first module of the overall certification course will not generally give you the education, training and skills necessary to find a career in the industry.
