The ISACA CMMC Certified Professional (CCP™) exam is administered by ISACA, the CMMC Assessor and Instructor Certification Organization (CAICO) for the Department of War's (DoW) Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program. ISACA describes the CCP as the foundational certification for anyone seeking to work in the CMMC implementation and assessment ecosystem. Ideal roles for CCP holders include CMMC compliance analyst, cybersecurity consultant, readiness advisor for defense contractors, and assessment team member.
This certification validates your understanding of the CMMC framework, its source documents, and how CMMC assessments are conducted. The exam covers the CMMC ecosystem, professional ethics, governance and source documents, the CMMC model and implementation evaluation, the CMMC Assessment Process (CAP), and scoping. It is valuable for cybersecurity consulting, compliance, and audit roles within the Defense Industrial Base. CCPs help organizations understand CMMC requirements and prepare for formal assessments. They can also serve on CMMC Level 2 assessment teams under the direction of certified assessors. The CCP is also the required first step toward the ISACA CCA™.
To earn the CCP, candidates must complete mandatory CCP training through a CAICO-approved training provider and pass the CCP exam. They must then submit a certification application that meets ISACA's requirements and obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 3 background investigation from the DoW. Candidates must also agree to follow ISACA's Code of Professional Ethics and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Policy.
The exam consists of 170 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 3.5 hours, delivered by PSI at a test center or through remote proctoring. Performance is reported on a scaled score from 200 to 800, and a scaled score of 500 or higher is required to pass. The CCP certification runs on a three-year cycle, and holders must earn CPE hours to maintain it.
