CompTIA is a well-known certifying entity in the IT and cybersecurity industry. Their certifications help pave the way for industry professionals to both begin and advance their careers in the IT industry.

The cloud computing industry has grown immensely and shows no signs of slowing down. A Cloud+ certification could be a helpful addition to expanding your career.

The CompTIA Cloud+ certification is considered an infrastructure certification. It covers hybrid cloud, virtual system administration, and network storage resource deployment. Ideally, infrastructure certifications complement the Network+ certification.

CompTIA Cloud+ is now compliant with ISO 17024 standards. It is also approved by the US DoD to meet directive 8570.01-M requirements.

What is the Cloud+ Exam Like?

The exam consists of a maximum of 90 questions that are both multiple-choice and performance-based where you’ll be solving a specific problem in a simulated IT environment. You will have 90 minutes to complete the exam. The exam is scored on a scale from 100-900. To pass, you’ll need a score of 750 or above.

It is recommended that candidates have 2-3 years of system administrator experience prior to taking the exam.

What Do I Need to Know?

Preparing for the Cloud+ exam will give you a broad knowledge of cloud computing and cloud infrastructure. Here’s what you’ll need to know:

Configurations and Deployment – learn how to review system requirements to successfully migrate workloads to the cloud

Security – review security requirements and protocol, be prepared to implement or optimize as appropriate

Infrastructure Management – review, manage, and allocate cloud resources appropriately

Troubleshooting – review and mitigate security issues, connectivity issues, and capacity

Infrastructure Maintenance – analyze existing systems infrastructure and implement practices to maintain optimal system performance

What Jobs Use Cloud+?

The Cloud+ certification is vendor-neutral. This is important because some industries or companies require more than one cloud computing environment. A Cloud+ certification means you’ll have a better understanding of multi-cloud environments.

Here are some of the jobs that rely on Cloud+:

  • System administrator
  • System engineer
  • Network administrator
  • Network engineer
  • Cloud developer
  • Cloud specialist
  • Project manager for cloud
  • Computing services
  • Cloud engineer
  • Data center SANs manager
  • Cloud computing business analyst

Do I Have to Renew My Certification?

Yes. Your certification is good for three years from your exam date. CompTIA offers continuing education to help keep your certification up to date. Using their continuing education program, you can continually review your certification every three years by completing 50 (or more) Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
