The International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) offers the Tactical Paramedic Certification (TP-C®) exam. This certification is designed for paramedics who operate in tactical, law enforcement, or military environments, focusing on providing medical care in austere or high-risk settings. The TP-C® validates the specialized knowledge and skills required for tactical medical operations, including care under fire, tactical field care, and evacuation scenarios.
To be eligible, candidates must be certified as a paramedic and possess experience or training relevant to tactical medicine. The exam consists of 135 multiple-choice questions (10 unscored), and candidates have 2.5 hours to complete it. Topics covered include tactical combat casualty care (TCCC), wound management, pharmacology, airway management, and operational considerations specific to tactical settings. A passing score is typically required to earn the TP-C® certification, which remains valid for four years. Recertification involves completing continuing education or retaking the exam to demonstrate ongoing proficiency in tactical medicine.
