The International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) offers the Community Paramedic Certification (CP-C®) exam. This credential is designed for paramedics practicing in expanded roles within community-based healthcare systems. CP-C® validates the advanced knowledge and clinical skills required to provide in-home care, chronic disease management, preventive services, and patient advocacy outside of traditional emergency response settings.
To be eligible, candidates must hold a current paramedic certification or license and have experience or formal education in community paramedicine. The exam features 135 multiple-choice questions (10 unscored), and candidates have 2.5 hours to complete it. Topics include patient assessment, social determinants of health, chronic disease management, behavioral health, ethics, and interprofessional collaboration. A passing score is required to earn the CP-C® certification, which is valid for four years. Recertification involves completing approved continuing education or retaking the exam to demonstrate continued competence in community paramedic practice.
