A Milestone for Burn Nursing Certification
On August 8, 2025, the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) announced that its Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) certification received accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC). This prestigious recognition positions the CBRN among the elite nursing certifications recognized for excellence.
Accreditation by ABSNC means the CBRN program meets rigorous standards in areas such as examination validity, reliability, fairness, test security, and recertification procedures. Plus, with ABSNC accreditation, the CBRN is now accepted by the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program, a sought-after distinction for healthcare organizations.
From Launch to Accreditation
BCEN launched the world’s first burn nursing specialty certification in October 2023. The exam, crafted in partnership with the American Burn Association (ABA) and leading burn nurse experts, covers the full burn care continuum—prehospital care, acute and critical care, rehabilitation, prevention, education, psychosocial support, and more.
In just one year, nearly 500 nurses had earned the CBRN credential, marking rapid adoption across civilian and military settings.
