The ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist® (CEP) is a credential offered by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), designed for professionals who work with individuals with chronic diseases or conditions, such as cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, and musculoskeletal disorders.
To be eligible, candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or a related field and have completed 1200 clinical experience hours, or a hold masters in Clinical Exercise Physiology or a related field and 600 hours of clinical experience.
The exam contains 100 multiple-choice questions, with an additional 15 unscored questions, and is administered over 3.5 hours. A passing score is determined by a scaled score of 550. The certification is valid for three years, with recertification requiring continuing education and proof of current CPR certification.
