The AACN CCRN® (Adult) exam is designed for nurses who provide direct care to critically ill adult patients. Offered by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), this certification validates your knowledge and skills in adult critical care nursing. CCRN-certified nurses are highly valued in intensive care units (ICUs), cardiac care units, and other high-acuity healthcare settings.
To be eligible for the CCRN® (Adult) exam, you must have an active RN or APRN license and meet one of the following clinical practice requirements: 1) A minimum of 1,750 hours of direct care for acutely/critically ill adult patients within the last two years, with 875 of those hours accrued in the most recent year, or 2) At least five years of experience, with a minimum of 2,000 hours of direct care, and at least 144 hours accrued in the most recent year.
The exam consists of 150 questions, with 125 scored and 25 used for statistical purposes. The test duration is 3 hours. A score of 83 correct answers out of the 125 scored questions is required to pass. Once certified, your CCRN credential is valid for three years, after which you must renew it through continuing education or re-examination.
