Take your emergency nursing career to the
next level by earning the prestigious Certified Emergency Nurse certification.
The BCEN Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN®) exam is for nurses seeking certification in emergency nursing. Offered by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN), this certification validates your ability to provide high-quality care in emergency settings, such as emergency departments and trauma centers.
The July 6, 2026 CEN® Examination Content Outline covers 11 subject areas that reflect the knowledge and skills required for safe and effective emergency nursing practice. These subjects include Cardiovascular Emergencies, Respiratory Emergencies, Neurological Emergencies, Gastrointestinal Emergencies, and Genitourinary, Gynecology, and Obstetrical Emergencies, which emphasize rapid assessment and clinical decision making in high acuity situations. The exam also addresses Medical Emergencies, Mental Health Emergencies, Musculoskeletal and Wound Emergencies, and Head, Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Emergencies, highlighting the broad range of patient presentations encountered in the emergency department. Additional focus is placed on Environmental and Toxicology Emergencies, Communicable Diseases, and Professional Issues, ensuring candidates are prepared to manage safety risks, ethical considerations, and professional responsibilities. Together, these subject areas ensure the CEN® exam aligns with current emergency nursing standards and prepares nurses to deliver high quality, evidence based care in fast paced emergency settings.
The CEN® exam consists of 175 questions, 150 of which are scored and 25 unscored, with a time limit of 3 hours. The certification is valid for four years, with renewal options through continuing education or re-examination. Eligibility requires a current RN license, and while there are no specific experience requirements, it is recommended that candidates have at least two years of experience in emergency nursing.

I studied this app for 3 months before taking my CEN exam. I passed with ease. I felt prepared and ready when test day came. I would definitely invest in this app if I were you! It’s so convenient to open it up and practice instead of scrolling social media. Great app!!
