Mobile test prep company Pocket Prep today announces the recipients of its 2021-22 Racial Equity Scholarship. The company has chosen five outstanding candidates from an incredibly strong and passionate pool of applicants.

Recipients applied for the scholarship in the fall of 2021 for a certification exam being taken between January 15, 2022 and June 15, 2022. Applicants were judged on criteria that included expressing a clear passion for and deep understanding of their chosen field, demonstrating how the scholarship would make a positive impact on their life, and an expressed financial need.

The recipients of the 2021-22 Pocket Prep Racial Equity Scholarship and their respective career certifications are:

  • Shani Banks, National Counselor (NBCC® NCE)
  • Krystal Christopher, Professional Practice in Psychology (ASPPB EPPP)
  • Nandini Devi, Registered Dietician (CDR RD)
  • LaShawn Ford, Professional Practice in Psychology (ASPPB EPPP)
  • Jo’Nelle Grant, Master of Social Work (ASWB MSW)

Each recipient plans to sit for their respective certification exam in 2022 and will be awarded full coverage of the costs associated with pursuing the certification. All recipients will receive:

  • Free access to Pocket Prep’s premium study material for their chosen exam
  • Full reimbursement for their chosen exam’s registration fee
  • All textbooks required for their chosen exam
  • Exam-related study materials such as study guides or practice exams up to $250
  • A check for $1,500 intended for study support upon receipt of exam registration

“This scholarship program has been deeply inspiring and impactful for everyone at our company,” said Peter Murphy, CEO and Co-Founder of Pocket Prep. “What started as our first venture into a social justice program has turned into the baseline for how we understand the needs within our communities and the types of positive impacts we can make.”

“Since this scholarship’s inception we have also launched a needs-based free study prep program, established an internal employee volunteer time off policy, and made donations to local nonprofits and charitable organizations in our respective communities. We plan to continue to grow the social justice arm of Pocket Prep for the foreseeable future,” said Murphy.

Pocket Prep’s Racial Equity Scholarship was born out of support for the 2020 Black Lives Matter movement. People of color continue to face inequitable obstacles and systemic injustice in the pursuit of education and career advancement each and every day. Our mission at Pocket Prep from day one has always been to make education accessible for all, and we are educating ourselves and our communities to do better, one step at a time.

Pocket Prep’s scholarship program is now bi-annual. The next scholarship will open to applicants in April 2022. For more information, please visit www.pocketprep.com/scholarship.
