The Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators tests, commonly known simply as Praxis® Core, are a set of standardized tests developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). They are designed to evaluate the basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics for individuals entering the teaching profession. The Praxis® Core tests are used by various colleges and teacher preparation programs to assess the readiness of prospective teachers. Each test covers a fundamental skill area that educators need to proficiently teach and communicate.

Mathematics (5733): This test assesses mathematical skills and knowledge across several content areas, including number and quantity, algebra and functions, geometry, and statistics and probability. It involves solving problems, interpreting and analyzing data, and applying mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios. The test consists of selected-response (multiple-choice) and numeric-entry questions and is conducted under a timed condition without the use of a calculator for some sections.

Reading (5713): The Reading test evaluates the ability to understand, analyze, and interpret various types of texts, including literary, informative, and analytical. Questions focus on assessing skills in critical reading, identifying main ideas, understanding the structure of a text, and making logical inferences. The format includes selected-response questions based on reading passages.

Writing (5723): This test measures the test-taker's ability to write effectively, with a focus on argumentative and informative/explanatory texts. It includes selected-response questions covering grammar, usage, sentence structure, and research skills. Additionally, there are two essay tasks: one requires an analysis of an issue, and the other requires an explanation or argument based on given sources.

The passing scores for the Praxis® Core tests vary by state and institution, as each state or educational institution sets its own requirements for what constitutes a passing score. Generally, test-takers must achieve a minimum score on each of the three tests; however, some states and institutions may also consider a composite score.
