The FTCE® (Florida Teacher Certification Examinations) are a series of tests administered by the Florida Department of Education to certify teachers in Florida.

The General Knowledge Test (GK) (082) is designed to assess the basic knowledge and skills in four areas essential for all teachers. Each section is scored separately, and you must achieve a passing score on all four sections to pass the entire test. The passing score for each section is scaled, requiring a minimum score of 200 out of 300.
  • English Language Skills (ELS) (826): This 40-minute section assesses grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.
  • Reading (827): This 55-minute section focuses on reading comprehension and interpretation across various types of texts.
  • Mathematics (828): This 1-hour and 40-minute section covers basic mathematical skills and problem-solving in areas such as algebra, geometry, and statistics.
  • Essay: Test-takers are required to write an essay that demonstrates their ability to communicate effectively in writing. *Pocket Prep does not offer prep for this section.
The Professional Education Test (PEd) (083) evaluates pedagogical and professional knowledge across various aspects of education. It covers topics such as instructional design and planning, student learning assessment, classroom management, and the professional environment. This section consists of 80 multiple-choice questions, is 2 hours and 30 minutes long, and has a passing score of at least 200 out of 300.

Passing scores for each section vary, but typically range from 200 to 300, depending on the test. FTCE® scores are used to determine eligibility for teaching certification in Florida, and the certification must be renewed every five years by completing professional development requirements or retaking the exam.
