The ServSafe® exams are a suite of educational programs and certifications developed by the National Restaurant Association to promote food safety. These exams are integral to the ServSafe® Food Safety Training Program, designed to educate food service workers about food safety practices to prevent foodborne illnesses. The program caters to various roles within the food service industry, from handlers and managers to alcohol servers. Here's a brief overview of the five main ServSafe® exams:

ServSafe® Alcohol: This exam targets those who serve alcohol in a food service setting, focusing on responsible alcohol service. Key areas include understanding alcohol laws and responsibilities, recognizing and preventing intoxication, checking identification, and dealing with difficult situations involving alcohol service.

ServSafe® Allergens: This exam is tailored for service staff and managers to understand and handle food allergens properly. It educates individuals on the identification of allergens, cross-contact, communicating with guests, and developing an allergen plan for their establishment.

ServSafe® Food Handler: This exam focuses on basic food safety practices for all food handlers. Topics covered include proper food handling techniques, personal hygiene, cross-contamination and allergens, time and temperature controls, and cleaning and sanitation. It's aimed at anyone involved in the preparation, service, or handling of food.

ServSafe® Manager: Designed for individuals in management positions within the food service industry, this exam covers more advanced food safety principles. Topics include foodborne illness, how to prevent it, receiving and storing food safely, preparing and serving food safely, and managing food safety practices and protocols within a food service establishment.

ServSafe® Workplace: A newer addition, this program and exam focus on creating and maintaining a positive, safe, and healthy work environment in the food service industry. It addresses issues such as harassment, discrimination, and workplace violence, providing strategies for prevention and response.

Each exam is designed to certify individuals in specific aspects of food safety and workplace well-being, ensuring they meet industry standards and legal requirements for their roles.
